Microneedling

By now we all have heard the buzz around microneedling. I have patients ask me about it every day.
There are many types of microneedling and I would like to clarify and demystify them for you.
In a nutshell, you have in-office treatments, done by a medical professional and the at-home versions.
As you may imagine, in-office is more aggressive, safer and more effective. I don’t advocate the home microneedling treatments. In home treatments can be unsafe due to increased risk of infection. So I will only talk about the medical grade version.

Types of Microneedling:

There are electric microneedling pen devices that vibrate at a very high speed. A sterile cartridge of dozens of tiny needles glide across the skin at a certain depth, selected by the operator to cause a controlled micro-injury. This treatment can be done with a topical hyaluronic acid to soften, hydrate and plump the skin or with PRP(platelet rich plasma, derived from your own blood). PRP yields the additional benefit of minimizing acne scars and deep wrinkles by stimulating collagen growth factors.

Sounds scary and painful? It’s actually not. The vibration of the needles causes a desensitizing feeling which makes it feel more like a massage. Numbing cream is applied 30-40 minutes before the treatment to ensure maximum comfort. The downtime is minimal to a few days. The needle penetration depth is adjustable depending on type of skin, age and facial zone. Best results can be seen after 3-5 treatments. They are usually done every 4-6 weeks. The results are cumulative, like going to the gym.

Rollers and stampers are other types of microneedling. They are typically less aggressive than the aforementioned treatment. Rollers and stampers are mechanical, hand held devices that are literally rolled or stamped across and into the skin.

What’s New in Microneedling:

A new favorite stamping method, is an actual tiny glass bottle which can be filled with small amounts of vitamins, neuromodulators like Botox or Xeomin and dermal fillers like Restylane or Boletero. The microchannels are finer than a hair and the serum is induced into the skin. The result is an instant youthful glow that can last up to several days or weeks. It smooths out pores, fine lines and gives skin an instant boost of youth. The best part is that there is no downtime and can be done hours before an event. That is why it has become a go to treatment for celebrities.

At European Wellness Cosmedical we have done our due diligence and have selected the most efficacious forms of microneedling.

I use the Collagen Pin device for deeper penetration. I love that it has 36 tiny needles, more than most other devices. I use it with or without PRP, depending on various factors the downtime can vary from 1-5 days depending on the depth.

There is no pain, no downtime and the result is smooth, tight skin giving you an instant “goddess glow with the AquaGold tm Microchanneling treatment.”

Microneedling can be performed by a licensed medical professional at a MedSpa or Dermatologist office. It is available here at European Wellness Cosmedical in Newport Beach. To find out if you are a candidate for microneedling, give us a call. 888-706-1245.
